The Underground

Ageless. Timeless. From ancient hop-smuggling to bootlegging to supplying the speak-easies, he appears in the shadows. Zig-zagging space and time, Ellsworth knows no boundaries, he is Black Market’s number one agent. Ellsworth is credited with resurrecting the beer culture in wine country by relentlessly pursuing the acquisition, legal or not, of the best quality ingredients.

VALUE

While his background is cloudy, his loyalty is not. We’ve tasked him with maintaining the secrecy of the blends that make our beers exceptional, all rooted in the history of craft beer. Time travel and globe hopping has given him talents ranging from wushu to hacking, all of which he uses to benefit the creation of the highest caliber beers. And he’s not bad on the eyes, either.

SUMMARY

Black Market asserts with high confidence that Ellsworth possesses a unique skill set and has the access to provide Black Market with credible intel as it relates to what the craft beer culture seeks now and in the future.

The Underground

Blonde bombshell doesn’t even begin to describe Mia. A munitions expert, world-class markswoman and cypher, she opts for romance languages over romance. Known as much for her rhumba as her willingness to rumble, her brains and her beauty make her a much sought after lady. She can move effortlessly between a high stakes poker match and a high tea, state dinner to a dive bar.

VALUE

Whether collaborating or conspiring, Mia’s value is incalculable. She’s been whisked away to nearly every port of call, remote beach, exotic locale, sleepy town and major city in effort to woo and win her. From each passport stamp and broken heart (and a few broken limbs), she brings the flavor profiles and secrets of the best in beverages back to Black Market, her first and only true love.

SUMMARY

Black Market assesses with high confidence that Mia’s assets are unmatched. The global flavors and worldly ways she brings to the beers we brew make her a lady, and a force, to be reckoned with. Just watch your heart and your wallet.

Whip smart, agile and endlessly determined, David can wile his way out of almost any challenge. He appears unassuming and mild but, when things get dicey, this fearless Fleming can be surprisingly strong. He won’t throw the first punch and can’t throw his weight around like his Belgian brother Goliath, but that doesn’t mean he flinches from a fight.

THREAT

David’s the guy you want on your side when there doesn’t seem to be any other way out. The youngest Black Listed agent and the resident golden boy helps coordinate enemy agents between England and continental Europe. He keeps surlier deviants, like Goliath and Dmitri, in check and they work better with him than anyone else. A long term collaboration with Ashcroft, who lives just across the North Sea, makes him worth twice his weight in worry for the Undeground.

summary

Though we like rooting for an underdog, we’d like to see this dog muzzled. He can get under, over, around or through just about anything. Subtly strong, David packs a wallop. He’s fooled us before and comes across as an all around nice guy, but the bitterness just below the surface packs a bite.

Bigger is better? We don’t think that about Goliath one little bit. At first glance, this hulking heavy hailing controlling the south of Belgium just looks dark and strong. But over time, some surprising complexity is revealed. His brute size partners with his astute readings of situations, and cuts of jibs, allow him to intimidate with his brawn and his brain equally.

THREAT

For a tiny country, Belgium’s got variety. Just look at Goliath and his brother David. While David goes for guile, Goliath’s unmatched dominance in the underground markets and unquestioned fidelity from his fellow French-speaking freedom fighters of the south make him a force to be feared for all who love fine beers. He works to block Black Market’s brew and allies from moving across Walloon out to the rest of Europe.

summary

A thoughtful giant, Goliath serves as a connector, protector and a leader of our enemies. Used to being written off as just another oaf, he’s surprises those working against him by being a nuanced blend of some of the best traits of the Black Listed top agents.

Every team, even the bad guys, needs a philosopher. And a fighter. If Dmitri was inclined to be happy, he’d be happy to be both. A chess grand master and a nihilist, Dmitri will outsmart his enemies (that would be us) or die trying. Strategy and an ability to think not just one, but ten or twenty, steps ahead make him hard to outwit. A bruiser, he’s mercurial, dark and strong.

THREAT

Expansive and with a complicated, rich history, just like his Mother Russia, Dmitri’s threat lies in his steel-trap memory and vice-like grip. He rules a vast territory from the Bering to the Black Seas. Dmitri carries an unrequited torch for fair Mia so as long as she’s working for Black Market and doesn’t love him back, he’s working against Black Market.

SUMMARY

Black Market knows that the pen may be mightier than the sword for most, but not for Dimitri, and thus we urge the syndicate to proceed with caution. Our Underground agents working against his goals are just as likely to be wounded by his weapons as his words.

Elegant and well-heeled, Ashcroft carries himself with an aristocratic air. Well-heeled and worldly, Ashcroft is a debonair bloke who’s aging well despite a tendency to tipple. He may roll his English eyes at the outlandishness and outbursts of his continental brethren but, at his cotre, he knows alliances matter. They’ve gotten him out of many a pickle. And, so, he’d break a sweat, and someone’s leg, for the Black Listed syndicate.

THREAT

Every team needs a cool head when things get hot. High-stakes negotiations at the highest level, regardless of their legality, go better for them, and worse for us, when Ashcroft at the helm. Popular, elegant and even-keeled, he’s the guy you want by your side in a fight or at the splashiest affair. Despite being  knows that balance and layers matter in beer and with people and believes in keeping the Black Listed hierarchy sound.

SUMMARY

Black Market knows it’s wise to keep a close eye on Ashcroft and not just because he’s so handsome. Despite his love of the sauce and whiskey wisdom, he’s keen on keeping the best beers in the world from getting where they’re needed and wanted.
